Timothy Tan M.D.

Timothy Tan, MD, is a skilled, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Sequoia Institute for Surgical Services in Visalia, Porterville, and Reedley, California. He is trained in adult reconstruction of total joints and specializes in hip and knee reconstruction (primary and revision surgery).

Dr. Tan cares for patients 12 and older with degenerative knee and hip conditions and those with complications associated with previous joint replacement surgery. 

He was born and raised in Northern California and attended the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), where he graduated summa cum laude in physiology with honors. Dr. Tan earned his medical degree from UCLA and completed his orthopaedic residency at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

He finished his medical training with a fellowship in total joint replacement and adult reconstruction at the University of California at San Francisco. 

Dr. Tan has completed more than 120 research studies published in prestigious medical journals. In addition, his research has been presented in more than 300 orthopaedic meetings, both nationally and internationally. 

He’s received awards for his research from the Hip Society, American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Knee Society. Dr. Tan’s expertise and research include infection prevention and treatment, outpatient total joint replacement, and complication prevention during joint replacement.

He always gives patients a voice in their care after educating them about their condition and the scientific basis of each treatment.

In his free time, Dr. Tan enjoys playing basketball and tennis, hiking, trying new restaurants, and traveling with his wife and dog. He resides in Visalia because of his love for the community.
